Remember this

Very enjoyable walk especially in the cold winter morning!

About 18, 58, 182 and 20120808

August 8, 2012

18 years ago, plus or minus a few months, I was asked to deliver a 23 months project, never expected to hang around for so long.

58 “my last day here” emails were sent, I categorized people, said slightly different things, instant reply received from most of them. Some rang shocked, I never like phone calls, I made conversations short.

182 friends, co-workers, colleagues were notified. I must have missed a few, it’s hard to keep track of everyone I know and have worked with. Every connection is of equal weight, they don’t need to be categorized but I hate dull standardized scripts. I researched the slight difference between “keep in touch” and “stay in touch”.

2012.08.08 is a new day!

Brutal facts but true

Evernote CEO Phil Libin tells you here not to do it.

About money

If you’re smart enough, if you’re talented enough, if you have the drive, if you have the ability, and you’re motivated by making money, then you should just get a real job instead, like become a banker or an investor or a consultant or something. You’ll be much more likely to make a lot of money over the course of your career than by starting a company.

On power

What it’s really like: everyone else is your boss – all of your employees, customers, partners, users, media are your boss. I’ve never had more bosses and needed to account for more people today.

This kind of poorly formed idea that you’re bored from work and want to do something different may be a good start, but it’s not sufficient. If you’re bored at your job, I strongly advice you to stay at your job and keep collecting your paycheck while you figure out what you want to do.

Flex time?

They’ll say: “I want more time to spend with my kids, and more time to travel and spend more time with my family”. That’s stupid. It doesn’t work like that at all.

You are different of course, you want to change the world and none of the above is your motive. Good luck and all the best.

“what are you reading?”

I’m reading Nothing.

“if you are reading nothing you aren’t reading!”

I’m reading something about “NOTHING”!

“How can ‘NOTHING’ be interesting at all?”

NOTHING is really interesting because it’s about everything you don’t know and things that you think you know but in fact you know practically nothing about.

“I don’t know what you are talking about, you better not waste time on NOTHING”.
