Another practice

January 26, 2014

I mean I fell while running again. My first practice was June 2012.

This time it was my right foot trying to lift above a step, I was about to turn back at the usual point in about 10 meters. In hindsight I should have slowed down a bit.

first point of contact with the ground

Minor scratch on my Echo watch

My left elbow suffered most so this isn’t anything at all

The bruise on palm almost disappeared when I arrived home

I wore long sleeve it could have been worse if I didn’t

Another runner asked if I was OK or needed a taxi, I turned back and walked a bit then decided to run back.

Running is about enduring pain I could have done more in fact but thought that it might better to have a shower and wash the dirt off my arms and legs.

I’ll watch the steps very carefully next time!

Sisters 2

January 14, 2014

Thank you Alice, Mrs Chan.

Alice reminded me the full name of the group was “Brothers 4 and Sisters 2”.

Simon and Alice, or Mr and Mrs Chan, were members of the group. We participated in a singing contest back in the college days and I would not have written this post if Alice didn’t remind us all about these details. I simply don’t remember enough details about what happened.

Mrs all have great memory, be warned!

I vaguely remember we won the contest then went out to compete in a inter-college contest and lost. Members of the group were all from the volleyball club except me, I wasn’t tall enough for the sport. I contributed as band leader, lead guitar and vocal. I don’t remember the “sisters 2” part, why would female vocal be necessary if I picked “Brothers 4”?

The reason was obvious, Alice and Simon were dating at the time! There was also another couple in the group.

That piece of history apparently is very important when such fond memory was talked about with a few old friends Mr and Mrs Chan and their grown up kids of 24 and 20. I was joking that next time we will have their grand children around the dining table when we refresh our fond memory of singing together.

The happy Chan family lives in New Zealand so I don’t have to handle questions like “who is Brothers Four by the way?” that frequently.

My guitars are still around I don’t mind going back to them when time is right.

We won with “Four Strong Winds”

“Yellow Bird” ended my singing career!

It was 1979 according to those with trustworthy memory!

Moving WP installation

January 8, 2014

If I move my WP installation I can hard code the IP address using define in wp-config.php (codex here) but since I have 4 sites using subfolders I wanted to change one line instead of going to 4 files and change 8 lines. This solution is to use a file say ip.text at htdocs then insert below snippet in all 4 wp-config.php files to read the line containing the IP address in the text file.

$file = fopen(str_replace(substr(ABSPATH,-2),"",ABSPATH)."ip.txt", "r");
$ip = fgets($file);

In this example /a/ is the subfolder containing a WP installation.

There are more issues than I ever anticipated. In fact WP uses absolute url for all attachments and media that went into the posts therefore if the sites are running under a different IP all links are broken.   I have tried a few plugins which claim to resolve this, none of them can do all I want to do.

To completely replace IP addresses appear in all your posts I have to do it in mysql, fire up phpmyadmin then run below

UPDATE wp_posts SET post_content = REPLACE(post_content, '','')

So that’s all I have to do to move my WP Intranet running under XAMPP portable Lite to an external drive, either thumb or HDD/SSD, run setup_xampp.bat in the XAMPP root folder do the little tricks above then I could run the installation in any Windows OS.

2013 workout account

January 5, 2014

It looks like I didn’t do a 2012 workout account, 2011 account is here.

A few graphs tell the story, I was just lazy during hot summer.
